Direct Ph.D at JNU: Apply by Jan 29



Kochi: Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi has invited applications for direct admission to the Ph.D. Programme 2016-17. The University admits a limited number of candidates directly to Ph.D. programme either on the basis of viva-voce or on the basis of written examination and viva-voce, as may be decided both in Monsoon and Winter Semesters in various areas of research in the (1) School of International Studies (2) School of Social Sciences (3) School of Language, Literature and Culture Studies (4) School of Computer & Systems Sciences (5) School of Physical Sciences (6) School of Environmental Sciences (7) School of Life Sciences (only in Winter Semester) (8) School of Arts and Aesthetics (9) School of Computational and Integrative Sciences (10) Centre for the Study of Law & Governance (11) Centre for Molecular Medicine and (12) Centre for Sanskrit Studies. 

Those interested are required to check the availability of seats in each Centre/School before applying for admission in Monsoon and Winter Semester. 

The eligibility requirements for direct admission to Ph.D. programme for each School/Special Centre in available in the ‘Instructions for completing the Application Form’, available athttp://www.jnu.ac.in/Admission/DirectPhDInstructions2016-17.pdf

Applications of the candidates whose M.Phil/M.Tech./Pre-Ph.D./MPH results are not available will not be considered under any circumstances. Applications of only those candidates whose results have been declared and copy attached with the application form will be considered. 

If a candidate is not selected for admission to M.Phil./Ph.D. or Pre-Ph.D./Ph.D., M.Tech./Ph.D., MPH/Ph.D. programme through Entrance Examination, he/she shall not be considered for Direct Admission to Ph.D. programme in the same year.

Candidates enjoying employed status and selected for admission shall be required to produce leave sanction order for a period of two years at the time of admission/registration. However, there is a limited provision for exemption of this requirement to candidates employed in research and teaching Institutions located in NCR. 

27% seats are reserved for OBC candidates (non-creamy layer), 15% seats for SC and 7.5% seats for ST. 3% seats are reserved for Person with Disability (PWD) (with a minimum of 40% disability). 

Application Forms along with eligibility requirements and Instructions for completing the Application Form can be downloaded from the ‘Admission’ link at http://www.jnu.ac.in. Candidates are requested to fill in separate Application Form for each discipline.
 
Candidates are required to enclose Demand Draft drawn in favour of Jawaharlal Nehru University payable at New Delhi as per the following rates towards cost of application form and processing fees along with the filled up Application Form. 
(i) General and OBC Category : Rs.420/- (Rs.200/- for cost of application form + Rs. 220/- for processing fee)
(ii) candidates belonging to SC/ST and Physically Challenged (PH) Category : Rs.310/- (Rs.200/- for cost of application form + Rs. 110/- for processing fee) 
(iii) candidates belonging to BPL Category : Rs.110/- for processing fee 
(iv) For Foreign National candidates : Rs.1850/- (Rs.200/- for cost of application form + Rs. 1650/- for processing fee)
Candidates should fill in the Application Form in all respects. 

Applicant should enclose 2 attested copies of each of the certificates and mark-sheets of the examinations stated to have been passed by the candidate including certificate showing the age of the candidate. The candidates who have passed the qualifying examination from a Foreign University should submit all the relevant information/documents which may justify the equivalence of their qualifications. In case the certificates/mark-sheets are in a language other than English, the English version of such documents duly attested by a Gazetted Officer should also be enclosed. 

Applicant should also enclose the following.
(i) A complete list of papers /subjects taken by the candidate at Bachelor's and Master's level examinations stated to have been passed by him/her
(ii) Two testimonials from persons, one of whom should preferably be a former teacher of the applicant
(iii) Copies of publication(s) of the candidate, if any, which he /she considers to be the most representative of his/her intellectual ability
(iv) Copies of Research Experience certificate from the competent authority
(v) A brief note (one copy) stating the candidate's area of specialised interest of research, if any, and his future professional goals, and such other additional information that may help his/her selection to the programme of study
(vi) A research proposal of about1000 words 

Duly filled in Application Forms can be submitted by Registered Post to ‘Section Officer (Admissions), Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi-110067’ or in person in Room No. 28, Administrative Block of the University on or before29th January, 2016. Candidates are requested not to send their application forms through private courier services.

Admission in Winter Semester will be need based and subject to availability of seats in each area of research. Interested candidates are therefore required to enquire about the availability of seats in the discipline for which they intend to apply for direct admission to Ph.D. programme before submitting Application Forms for admission in Winter Semester beginning January, 2017. 
 
The Application Forms for Winter Semester beginning January 2017 will be available from 1st September to 14th October, 2016 and last date for submitting the Application Forms will be 14th October 2016.
