NCHM JEE 2016: Apply by April 11



Kochi: National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology, under Ministry of Tourism, Government of India has invited applications for NCHM JEE 2016 for admission to B.Sc Hospitality and Hotel Administration Programme. The council will conduct the NCHM Joint Entrance Exam (NCHM-JEE) on April 30, 2016 (Saturday). 

The Council regulates academics for B.Sc. Hospitality & Hotel Administration and nine other structured courses of study that are imparted at the existing 21 Central Institutes of Hotel Management, 19 State Government Institutes of Hotel Management, 01 Public Sector Undertaking and 13 Private Institutes of Hotel Management affiliated with NCHMCT. 

The Bachelor of Science program in Hospitality and Hotel Administration is offered jointly by the National Council for Hotel Management and the Indira Gandhi National Open University. The Three-Year (Six Semester) course equips students with all the required skills, knowledge and attitude to efficiently discharge supervisory responsibilities in the Hospitality sector. The program also involves in-depth laboratory work for students to acquire required knowledge and skill standards in the operational areas of Food Production, Food & Beverage Service, Front Office Operation and House Keeping. It also provides managerial inputs in Hotel Accountancy, Food Safety & Quality, Human Resource Management, Facility Planning, Financial Management, Strategic Management, Tourism Marketing and Management. 

Eligibility for admission 
Qualifying examination:
A pass in 10+2 system of Senior Secondary examination or its equivalent with English as one of the subjects. Candidate must have passed English as a subject of study (core/elective/functional) in the qualifying examination.

Those appearing in 10+2 or equivalent examination can also appear in JEE 2016 on provisional basis. Provisional admission will stand cancelled if proof of having passed the qualifying examination (10+2 or its equivalent) is not submitted at the time of counselling or at the time of admission or latest by 30.09.2016

The offer of admission is subject to verification of original certificates/documents at the time of admission. If any candidate is found ineligible at a later date even after admission to an Institute, his/her admission will stand cancelled.

Qualifying examinations for Indian students
 Plus two level examination in the 10+2 pattern of Senior Secondary education of any recognized Central/State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education and Council for Indian School Certificate Examination or State Boards of Secondary Education.
 Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognized Board/ University.
 General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
 High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University.
 Any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in a foreign country recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 pattern of Senior Secondary education.
 H.S.C. Vocational Examination approved by NCVT and SCVT of concerned state.
 Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects including English as one of the Subjects, result of which should be available upto 30.09.2016.

Age limit
For candidates from General and OBC categories, upper age limit is 22 years as on 01.07.2016. Candidates born on or after July 01, 1994 are eligible. In the case of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe candidates, upper age limit is 25 years as on 01.07.2016. That is SC/ST candidates born on or after July 01, 1991 are eligible. Upper age limit for Physically Challenged candidates shall be reckoned as per the category he/she belongs to i.e. General/SC/ST/OBC. Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/Pre-University Certificate shall be the authentic proof that will be accepted. At the time of counselling, this certificate must be produced in original as a proof of age, failing which the candidate will not be considered for counselling/ admission. 

Important information
Admission to first year of B.Sc. Hospitality & Hotel Administration program is strictly based on the All India Rank (AIR) earned by the candidate in the written test of JEE. Ranks are strictly based on the marks obtained by the candidate in written examination. No group discussion or interviews are involved. Counselling involves checking of eligibility of candidates, verification of documents, depositing of counselling and first semester fee and opportunity to opt for choice of Institutes as available at the time of his/her counselling as per his / her AIR. Candidates should give as many choices after careful evaluation of Institutes based on information available in their respective websites. Allotment of Institute shall be as per merit (AIR) and choice of Institute exercised by the candidate.

Pattern for Written Examination
Duration: 3 hours
1. Numerical Ability and Analytical Aptitude: 30 Marks
2. Reasoning and Logical Deduction: 30 Marks
3. General Knowledge & Current Affairs: 30 Marks
4. English Language: 60 Marks
5. Aptitude for Service Sector: 50 Marks
 
Total Marks: 200
Question Paper will be bilingual i.e. in English and Hindi (except for English Language). 

Marking Scheme for JEE Written Test
Each correct answer under Numerical Ability & Analytical Aptitude, Reasoning & Logical Deduction, General Knowledge & Current Affairs and English Language components carry one mark. For any wrong answer 0.25 marks will be deducted. The Graded mark(s) will be awarded under Aptitude for Service Sector component in the following manner; the most appropriate answer carries 1.00, the next appropriate answer carries 0.75, the next to next appropriate answer carries 0.50 whereas the in appropriate answer shall carry negative mark of 0.25 to be deducted.

Merit List
All India merit list of candidates shall be prepared on the basis of marks secured in the JEE Written Test. In case candidates secure equal marks, the merit will be determined as under;
i) Candidate securing higher marks in English component of JEE shall rank higher,
ii) in case of candidates securing equal marks in JEE, as well as in English component of JEE, then the candidate securing higher marks in Service Aptitude Component of JEE shall rank higher,
iii) In case of tie in (i) and (ii) above, the candidate older in age shall rank higher.

Result of Written Test
Result of Written Test shall be announced on the Council’s web site http://www.nchmcounselling.nic.in andhttp://www.nchm.nic.in in the third week of May, 2016. 

Merit Scholarships and Financial Assistance
1. National Council has instituted Merit based Award Scheme with the help of Industry for meritorious students who obtain 1st, 2nd and 3rd position on All India basis in Council’s Annual Examination in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd year of the course i.e. after completion of both the semesters of the respective year.
2. National Council Merit-cum-means based scholarship scheme is available in the Central Institutes of Hotel Management. The scheme carries 50% refund of semester fee. Details can be obtained from the institute.
3. Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates can avail financial assistance from their respective State Governments for which the concerned Institute will issue studentship certificate indicating fee received from the student.

NAT 2016: Apply by May 31



Kochi: Applications have been invited for NAT 2016 for admissions to engineering courses offered by APIIT (Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology), Panipat. Students who are interested in pursuing engineering from APIIT can appear for NAT 2016 online. The National Aptitude Test (NAT) is scheduled to be held on June 3, 2016.

Eligibility
1. Passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the Chemistry/Computer.
2. Obtained at least 45% marks (40% in case of candidate belonging to reserved category) in the above subjects taken together.
3. Any other qualification considered as equivalent by University.
4. Age at least 17 years on the 1st date of the month of admission.

B.Tech in Mechatronics: Mechatronics engineering is the study of the interface between mechanical engineering and electronics. It is a broad area which embraces mechanical engineering, manufacture, electronics and computer technology.

B.Tech in Electrical and Electronics: A degree of Electrical and Electronics Engineering offers challenging opportunities over a wide range of activities from research and design to operations, management and planning.

B.Tech in Electronics: Electronics Engineering Programme is designed to develop the core engineering skills of students so that they would fulfil the requisite professional requirements of their chosen engineering fields.

B.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering: The Computer Engineering Degree from Staffordshire University i.e. B.E. (Hons) in Computing is a discipline that combines both Electronic Engineering and Computer Science.

Bachelor of Business Administration: The BBA course aims at developing a student's intellectual ability, executive personality and managerial skills through an appropriate blending of business and general education.

Exam pattern
The examination consists of 100 multiple choice questions (50 Mathematics and 50 Physics). The duration of the paper will be 2 hrs 30 min. Each correct answer will earn 3 marks and 1 mark would be deducted for an incorrect answer.

Attestation Form B which will act as an Admit Card/Hall-Ticket for the candidate, will be sent to the candidate by post 15 days before the test.

The candidate is required to produce the Admit card in the examination hall to the Center Superintendent, for verification. The application number mentioned on the Application Form would act as the Examination Roll No. for the candidate.

JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarships


Applications have been invited from Indian nationals for the "JN Tata Endowment Loan Scholarships" for the academic year 2016-2017 for higher studies abroad in all disciplines and subjects. The J. N. Tata Endowment awards a one-time loan scholarship only at the beginning of the course to Indian nationals for full time Postgraduate/Ph.D./Postdoctoral studies abroad, in all fields, irrespective of caste, creed, gender or community. The amount to be awarded to each scholar by way of the loan scholarship is determined on the basis of the norms laid down for the purpose, and does not cover the full cost of studies. The amount awarded as the loan scholarship ranges between Rs.1,50,000/- and Rs.6,00,000/-. All selected applicants do not necessarily qualify for the maximum amount. The selected scholars may also qualify for a gift scholarship and travel assistance from our allied Trusts as may be decided at the sole discretion of the Trustees of the concerned Trusts. A gift scholarship can be for a maximum amount of Rs.10,00,000/- and the travel grant can be a maximum of Rs.50,000/-.

Eligibility Criteria:  
Applicants should be Indian nationals who are graduates of a recognised Indian University, with a consistently good academic record and other achievements to their credit.  Students in the final year of the degree course and those awaiting results are eligible to apply.  Mid-career professionals up to the age of 45, with a good academic record and experience in their fields for further research, specialisation or training may also apply. Candidates need not have the admission/offer letters from the Universities to which they have applied for the academic year 2016-2017 at the time of making the application. Candidates may, therefore update their application form once they secure admission and submit it again. Scholars going abroad for seminars, conferences and undergraduate studies are not eligible for a J. N. Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship.

PhD in Political Science at Delhi Uty

Applications for admission to the PhD program in the Department of Political Science, Delhi university is available in the office of the Board of Research Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences. Interested candidates are required to submit their application along with one copy of the synopsis on the topic of their proposed research to the office of the Department of Political Science at the latest by Friday, 29th January, 2016. 


The written examination will be held in the Department of Political Science, on Friday,5thFebruary, 2016 at 10am.
The qualifying examination shall be of two hours’ duration. The maximum marks will be 100. The Question paper will consist of three parts and students are required to answer all three parts. Part one will consist of a bibliographic essay; part two will have a discipline-based analytical essay and part three will include questions pertaining to research methods. The essays will be evaluated on the basis of clarity, comprehension, and originality of thought of candidates. The question paper will be in English and Hindi. And students have the option of answering in English or Hindi. Those who score 50 marks or more shall be declared to have passed the examination (subject to the reservation rules of the University) and will be called for the interview.
Candidates whose names appears on the interview list will be required to submit 12 copies of their research proposal in the Department office by Tuesday, 9th February, 2016.

Age limit: 
For PG Medical and Superspeciality courses, age should not be more than 32 years for MBBS degree holders and 35 for PG Medical degree holders. Age is relaxable by a maximum of 5 years in the case of SC/ST candidates and by a maximum of 3 years for OBC candidates as on the date of commencement of courses. Age should not be more than 45 years as on the date of commencement of courses in case of sponsored / deputed candidates. Employees of NIMHANS applying for Ph.D should have at least 10 years of service left before registering for Ph.D. Age is calculated as on 1.7.2016.
