ANNOUNCEMENT OF SECOND RAJIV GANDHI YOUTH LEADERSHIP INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME (RGYLIP), SUMMER 2013 (15th May to 13th June, 2013)

Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), the premier national training institute for the youth, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India and an Institute of National Importance by an Act of Parliament No.35/2012 exclusively focuses on holistic development of youth of the country through an array of training and innovative post-graduate programmes. India is burgeoning youth population and is in the process of reaping the benefits of the demographic dividend. The RGNIYD in consonance with its agenda of youth development strives to facilitate the same.
As part of its consistent pursuance of the goal of youth empowerment RGNIYD is organising an internship programme 'Rajiv Gandhi Youth Leadership Internship Programme (RGYLIP) for the youth all over India. The internship endeavors to expose the youth to a range of branches of knowledge, skills and field experiences and enable them to develop leadership qualities which would result in strengthening their commitment to the task of Nation building. The programme is of one month duration from 15th May to 13th June 2013 at RGNIYD, Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu.
This course highlights the characteristics of a leader and teaches students the art of decision-making. It also helps them develop leadership skills to become effective leaders in their own communities thus having a positive impact on managing their lives on both professional and social levels.
  1. Emphasize the importance of developing leadership skills and their impact on professional and social lives, in addition to providing students with an added incentive to be publicly recognized and awarded for their contribution to developing their community.
  2. Stimulate the youth's intellectual and personal growth and help them embark on a journey to become agents of change in their society.
  3. During the internship period, the program exposes the participating students to reading material focused on leadership that is inspirational, informative, and motivational to broaden their horizons and prepare them to embark on a journey of personal discovery and change.
  4. Each one of the participants should take a project that will tackle key issues and help solve challenges facing the living society.
The interns will have to participate in morning prayer (Sarva Dharma prayer), Yoga/Meditation, and evening games and sports compulsorily. They will be given free access to library facilities and Wi-Fi computer network.
  • Final list will be displayed in the website and intimated to the selected interns by email or phone.
  • Selected interns should bring two passport size photographs.
  • The interns will not be allowed to keep their friends and relatives beyond 15.05.2013. Parents/Guardians who accompany the interns to RGNIYD, Sriperumbudur will have to leave by the evening of 15.05.2013.
  • Hospitality extended to them shall be charged.
  • The climate at Sriperumbudur will be hot due to summer. So interns are advised to bring their clothes and accessories accordingly.
Evaluation of Internship Experience
The internship is evaluated on a creditbasis. Credit will be based upon the following:
Work performance.............50%*
Weekly reports.................20%*
Final written report..........20%*
On-Campus Seminar........10%
Total: 100%

Eligibility
Students pursuing post-graduate courses (regular mode) from all over the country are eligible for internship. Students who have passed out or completed Master's degree are not eligible.
Students enrolled in technical courses like B.Sc (Agri.), B.E, MBBS, B.L, 5 Years integrated courses or any professional courses and equivalent course can apply if they are entering in the final year (2013-14).
Application Procedure:
The application has to be filled and sent online and through post along with the attachment of scanned copy of the endorsement of the same by the Principal/Head of the institution. Submit a letter of recommendation from any one of the following authorities of your University; stating that you are currently enrolled and your expected date of graduation:
  • Dean of Students or dean of faculty
  • Registrar
  • Placement officer
Please ensure that an official letterhead or an official seal is used for the endorsement letter. This endorsement should be attached to the application. For online applicants, ensure that the endorsement is sent to us by e-mail, fax or post. Candidates are advised that their application forms will not be processed without proper and adequate endorsement.
Please note successful registration does not guarantee internship. Those who are selected will be personally contacted by phone or e-mail.
Criterion of selection:
The major criterion of selection will be based on the relevance of the academics, participation in co-curricular activities, level of interest in community work and oral interview, withthe prospective interns. They will be awarded certificates on successful completion of the internship.
NOTE: RGYLIP also considers institutional representation, gender, and nationality balance in the over-all intern selection process.

Hospitality and Travel Grant
Local hospitality including boarding and lodging will be provided of by the RGNIYD. The internship is sponsored by the Government of India and the travel expenditure (IInd class sleeper or equivalent ) of the interns by shortest route will be reimbursed on production of ticket from Home/Institutions to RGNIYD.
Sessions / Content Delivery
The programme will offer meticulously designed syllabi for training and lecture sessions. The subjects/ topics are in tune with the contemporary situation and based on informed research and pressing youth concerns / problems. Youth issues are given paramount importance while selecting the topics and the knowledge acquired in these areas will expectedly contribute to the empowerment of youth. Due care has been taken to judiciously combine, lecture, discussion and interactive methods for content delivery. On completion of internship, the interns would be able to gain comprehensive knowledge and conceptual clarity about social issues, honing their skills, acquire new competencies and internalize a sense of empowerment. The programme will help them enhance their leadership potential, realize their best selves and effect a strong connect between them and the larger society. The internship will be an educative as well as rewarding experience for the interns.
Rules and Regulations
  • The interns have to register themselves on the date of arrival at the RGNIYD at Sriperumbudur.
  • They will have to attend/participate in all the sessions/programmes/activities regularly without break.
  • Leave is not allowed.
  • Discontinuation will lead to remittance of the amount spent on the intern till the date of leaving.
  • The selected interns should bring all the testimonial like attested photo copies of mark sheets, certificates.
Facilities and extra-curricular activities:
The institute has good facilities and hence the stay of the interns will be made as comfortable as possible . The interns will have to participate in games and sports compulsorily . They will be given free access to library facilities and computer network.
