Admission Notice 2013-14

Master of Arts (MA) Admission Session 2013-14

Online applications are invited from eligible candidates for admission to the MA in Development Studies programme for the academic session 2013-14

Applicants are required to note the name of the Department, Programme and Programme Code as mentioned below, that will be required at the time of filling online application form

Department/Programme and Qualification

Humanities and Social Science (HS) Development of Studies (HS-01)

Qualification: B.Tech, B.A., B.Sc., B.Com. with 50% marks or 5.5/10 CGPA. Among B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com, applicants with Honours will be given preference

There is no relaxation in academic requirement for any category/caste of candidates because the minimum academic requirement has been set to meet the basic challenges of the academic programme

The above mentioned CGPA/percentage should be the aggregate CGPA/percentage based on all semesters/years

Conversion from CGPA to percentage or vice-versa given by individual Institute/University will not be considered

If the evaluation system is in grades, CGPA value will be considered and if the evaluation system is in marks, percentage value will be considered

Eligibility


Admission to the programme will be made on the basis of career marking as decided by the Institute
The candidates appearing qualifying degree final examination may also apply for the above programme
However, they are required to submit their mark/grade sheet showing 50% marks or 5.5/10 CGPA at the time of selection and admission, failing which the applicants must produce a certificate signed by the Principal or Registrar of the

College/University last attended stating that all examinations including practicals necessary for award of the degree have been completed, in order to be eligible for admission, in the prescribed format given in the Annexure-I

Such candidates have to produce their final result latest by 30th September 2013; else their admission will stand cancelled and all fees paid including Caution deposit will be forfeited by the Institute

The distribution of seats for the said programme including slow pace is
General-15, PH-01, OBC-08, SC-04, ST-02
Total seats: 30

Fee: SC-40500/-; ST Students Rs. 34500/-

The above fee is only for the 1st semester. For remaining semesters the approximate fee including Mess dues will be 29500/- (23500/- for SC/ST students)

Reservation:

Applicants claiming reservation under SC/ST/OBC/PH quota are required to produce valid certificate as detailed below at the time of admission failing which their candidature will be treated as General category:

The OBC and PH certificates should have been issued on or after 01st January 2013
Candidates claiming reservation under SC/ST quota are required to produce SC/ST certificate as prescribed by the Govt. of India

Candidates claiming reservation under OBC quota are required to produce OBC certificate
(Annexure-II) and undertaking (Annexure-III) in the prescribed format for admission to academic programmes (and not the format for employment/recruitment)

For physically challenged category, a minimum of 40% disability is required subject to the condition that the candidate is capable of carrying out all activities related to theory and practical work as applicable to various programmes without any special concessions and exemptions

The Medical Officer of NIT Rourkela may assess the Physically Challenged (PH) certificate and the decision of the Medical Officer is final and binding on the candidate

Attention of the PH candidates is drawn to Chapter XI, Section 56 of PWD Act for persons with severe disability

A disability of 80% or more is termed as severe disability

Suitability of such candidates for carrying out all activities related to theory and practical work as applicable to various programmes without any special concessions and exemption will be examined by the Institute authority with help of Medical Officer and the admission of such candidates is subject to the decision of the authority

How to apply


Interested candidates satisfying the eligibility criteria may submit online application at www.application.nitrkl.ac.in following the instructions

Applicants are advised to; read the advertisement carefully, read the instructions to fill up the online application form; Fill up and submit the online application form accordingly; Pay non-refundable application fee of Rs.500/- online from online application portal

Applicants are NOT required to send hard copy of the application form or any other document(s) to NIT Rourkela

However, candidates who will be called for selection/admission will be required to submit the following at the time of reporting:

Signed copy of the application form; a set of Xerox copies of all certificates from HSC onwards

The same will be forwarded to the Academic Office by the department for record
They also need to produce original certificates from HSC onwards for verification

The list of selected candidates will be displayed in our Institute website www.nitrkl.ac.in and no postal intimation will be sent to the selected candidates

The candidates are requested to visit our Institute website for the merit list, selection, counseling and admission as per following schedule

Important Dates


Application form will be available in the Institute website for online submission: 13th May, 2013(Monday)

Closing date of online application: 10th June, 2013 (Monday)

Publication of list of applicants in the Institute website: 11th June, 2013 (Tuesday)

Selection and admission: 18th June, 2013 to 19th June, 2013 (Tuesday to Wednesday)

Registration for the 1st Semester: 22nd July, 2013 (Monday)

Starting of class: 23rd July, 2013 (Tuesday)
