CLAT (Common Law Admission Test)-2014

Gujarat National Law University (GNLU), Gandhinagar, the convener of CLAT 2014 has announced the application dates and entrance test dates of the Common Law Admission Test
Official notification will be issued in December 2013 and the Information Brochure and application form will be available from January, 2014

Participating Law University:

The National Law Universities/Institutes that are part of the CLAT-2014 are:
NLSIU, (Bangalore); NALSAR, (Hyderabad); NLIU, (Bhopal); WBNUJS, (Kolkata); NLU, (Jodhpur); HNLU, (Raipur); GNLU, (Gandhinagar); RMLNLU, (Lucknow); RGNUL, (Patiala); CNLU, (Patna); NUALS, (Kochi); NLUO, (Orissa); NUSRL, (Ranchi); NLUJA, (Assam)

CLAT 2014 Eligibility:

UG Courses: The eligibility criteria for candidates (Indian Nationals only) seeking admission through CLAT-2014 inUndergraduate Courses shall be as per the following:
The candidate by 1st July 2014 must not have attained the age of 20 years in case of General/OBC/Persons with Disability (PWD) and Other category candidates, and 22 years in case of SC/ST category candidates
The candidates must have secured 45% marks in 10+2 or its equivalent
This is 40% in case of SC/ST category
Those appearing in qualifying examination in March/April 2014 are also eligible to apply
PG Courses: The eligibility criteria for candidates (Indian Nationals only) seeking admission through CLAT-2014 in Postgraduate Courses shall be as per the following:
As regards minimum percentage of marks in qualifying examination (i.e., LL.B./Five-Year Integrated LL.B./any other equivalent examination), the candidates must have
55% marks in case belongs to General/OBC/PWD and other category, and
50% marks in case belongs to SC/ST category
Those appearing in qualifying examination in March/April 2014 are also eligible to apply

Exam Pattern:

The CLAT-2014 Question Paper for UG courses shall multiple choice type questions as per the following scheme
Maximum Marks: 200
Duration of CLAT-2014: 02:00 Hours
Total Number of Questions: 200
Negative Marking: 0.25 Mark/wrong answer
Subject areas with weightage
1. English including Comprehension: 40 Marks
2. General Knowledge and Current Affairs: 50 Marks
3. Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability): 20 Marks
4. Legal Aptitude: 50 Marks
5. Logical Reasoning: 40 Marks
The CLAT-2014 Question Paper for PG courses shall have the following pattern:
Maximum Marks: 150
Duration of CLAT-2014: 02:00 Hours
Long Essay Type Descriptive Questions: 100 Mark
Multiple-Choice Questions: 50 Marks (50 questions of 1 mark each)
Negative Marking: 0.25 Mark/wrong answer to MCQ
The long essay type contains 4 questions and 25 marks each pertaining to subject areas such as constitutional Law and Jurisprudence
The Multiple-Choice Questions covers all subjects except Constitutional Law and Jurisprudence prescribed by BCI for Under-Graduate Courses

Admission Procedure:

In case of equal marks secured by candidates, the procedure to break the tie will be as per the following order:
(i) Higher marks in the section of legal aptitude in CLAT-2014
(ii) Higher age
(iii) Computerized draw of lots
Procedure to take admission under the NRI/NRI sponsored seats in various NLUs:
The candidate interested in seeking admission in any of the NLUs under the NRI/NRI sponsored seat shall undertake the CLAT-2014
The admission will be based on the merit in CLAT-2014
The students are also simultaneously required to complete the formalities of the respective universities, if any, for which the candidate need to, contact the respective university of interest for further information

Application Fees:

The candidates has to pay the application fee for general OBC/PWD and other category candidates Rs.4000/- while submitting the Application Form of CLAT-2014
The fee is Rs.3500/- in case of the SC/ST category candidates
The candidates will have to bear the bank transaction costs for remitting the fee online while submitting the application form

The CLAT-2014 Information Brochure can be downloaded from the CLAT website www.clat.ac.in as well as the websites of the member NLUs
The Application Form and Information Brochure of the CLAT 2014 will be accessible from 01st Jan 2014 (Wednesday)
The submission of online application forms can be done between 01st Jan 2014 (Wednesday) to 31st Mar 2014 (Monday 11.59 p.m.) in the official CLAT 2014 website http://www.gnlu.ac.in/clat2014.php
