JEE Main 2017: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be the conducting authority of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2017. The national level entrance examination will be held on April 2, 2017 (online mode) and April 8 and April 9, 2017 (offline mode) for all eligible and interested applicants. JEE Main 2017 registrations are now closed. The application form of JEE Main 2017 was available from December 1, 2016 and the deadline to submit the form was extended till January 16, 2017 by CBSE. Payment of the application fees could be done till January 18, 2017. CBSE also introduced Aadhaar Card number as a mandatory criteria to be fulfilled during the registration process. Without the Aadhaar Card number, the application form of JEE Main 2017 was not accepted. JEE Main 2017 Paper II, which is conducted for B.Arch and B.Planning will be held in offline mode on April 2, 2017. The admission committee will be announcing the results on April 27, 2017. The entrance examination of JEE Main is the first stage for admissions into the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and is also a gateway for all of the NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. What is New in JEE Main 2017?
- CBSE has made Aadhaar Card number a mandatory field to be filled in the application form by the applicants. If the applicant is not enrolled then he/she must register themselves for a Aadhaar Card.
- The applicants belonging to the states of Assam, Jammu & Kashmir and Meghalaya are exempted from the mandatory Aadhaar Card number. These applicants can fill the application form of JEE Main 2017 by using passport number, bank account, ration card number or any other valid government identity number.

- The normalized scores of 12th standard marks will not be used to calculate the All India Ranks of JEE Main 2017. In the ratio of 60:40, the scores of JEE Main and normalized marks of 12thstandard were being used till the session of 2016-17.
- According to the official announcement of MHRD, the applicants should have secured at least 75% marks or be in the top 20 percentile in 12th standard examination conducted by the respective boards. For the applicants belonging to the SC/ST Category, the eligibility criteria is 65%.
- Only the top 2,20,000 applicants from JEE Main 2017 will be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2017. Upto the year 2015, only the top 1,50,000 qualifying applicants of JEE Main were eligible to take JEE Advanced (the second stage of JEE), however from the year 2016 onwards, the examination would filter top 2 lakh applicants from JEE Main for appearing in JEE Advanced (which provides admissions into IITs).

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria 2017
The eligibility crirteria of JEE Main 2017 are some criteria that the applicants will have to meet in order to be eligible for admission. If these applicants are not able to satisfy the criteria then he/she will not be allowed to participate in the entrance examination of JEE Main 2017. The applicants are advised to read the full eligibility criteria before registering themselves.
- Age: The applicants should have been born on or after October 1, 1992 (or be 25 years old) to be eligible for admission. The age criteria has been relaxed for the SC/ST/PwD categories by 5 years. The applicants of these categories should have been born on or after October 1, 1987 (or be 30 years of age).
- Academic Requirements: Should have qualified 12th standard (or equivalent) qualifying examination in the year 2015 or 2016. The applicants who are appearing for the 12th standard qualifying examination in the year 2017 are also eligible.
- Qualifying Marks: The General Category applicants should have scored atleast 75% marks or be in the top 20 percentile in the qualifying examination of 12th standard. SC/ST applicants need to secure 65% marks.
- Number of Subjects in Qualifying Examination: The applicants need to have taken atleast five subjects in the 12th standard qualifying examination. If the applicant has qualified with only 4 subjects then he/she will not be considered eligible.
- Aadhaar Card Number: A new eligibility criteria has been added by CBSE from the session of 2017-18. All applicants need to have registered Aadhaar Card Number to be able to fill the application form.
- Number of Attempts: The applicants will be able to attempt JEE Main 3 times.

JEE Main Application Form 2017
The application form of JEE Main 2017 was available in online mode for all eligible applicants from December 1, 2016 till January 16, 2017. The applicants were required to register themselves to be eligible for the entrance examination of JEE Main 2017. No other mode of application was accepted. The date to pay the application fee was extended till January 18, 2017. While filling the application form, the applicants had to make sure that the scanned copies of their photograph , signature and left hand thumb impression as per the required specifications have to be uploaded. All of the information submitted had to be as per the documents possessed by the applicants. Since the application process has ended, the following steps can be checked by the applicants for reference.
Steps to fill JEE Main 2017 Application Form
Step 1 – Registration: The applicants will have to register themselves. A password will have to be created for future purpose.
Step 2 – Filling of Information: Next, the applicants will have to enter their exam related, personal, academic, communication and other details.
Step 3 – Uploading of Images: The scanned copies of the applicant’s photograph, signature and left hand thumb impression has to be uploaded properly.
Step 4 – Payment of Application Fees: The application fees has to be paid by online method or e-challan.
Step 5 – Print out of Application Form: The applicants will have to download the acknowledgement page for future use.

The applicants had to pay the application fees through online mode i.e., credit card/debit card/E-Wallet (SBI buddy/Paytm) or through challan generated by cash in the Syndicate Bank/Canara Bank/ICICI Bank/HDFC Bank.

Correction Facility of JEE Main 2017
The registered applicants will be able to correct their application form of JEE Main 2017 from January 25 till February 3, 2017. The applicants will have to login using their application number, password and security pin. All necessary corrections and editing can be done by the applicants and if applicable, payment of additional fees may also have to be done. The applicants will not be allowed to change their mode of examination from online to offline.

JEE Main Admit Card 2017
The applicants will be able to access the admit card of JEE Main 2017 tentatively by the 2nd week of March 2017. Only those applicants who have successfully submitted the application form and are eligible will be issued the admit card. The application number and password has to be entered by the applicant to download the admit card. The name of the applicant, date of birth, gender, paper, city, test centre, state code of eligibility and more will be present in the admit card of JEE Main 2017. The admit card is to be kept safe by the applicants as it will be needed to enter the examination centre. If the applicants find any discrepancy in their admit card, then they are requested to contact the authorities.

How to Prepare for JEE Main 2017

JEE Main Exam Pattern 2017
JEE Main 2017 will be held in offline mode on April 2, 2017 and in online mode on April 8 and April 9, 2017. The examination paper will be divided into two parts – Paper I (B.E./B.Tech) and Paper II (B.Arch and B.Planning). Paper II of JEE Main 2017 will be conducted only in offline mode. The applicants will be able to use the answer key to cross check their answers with the correct responses. This will give the applicants an idea regarding the scores they might secure before the actual release of the official result. JEE Main Result 2017
CBSE will be announcing the result of JEE Main 2017 on April 27, 2017. All of the applicants who participate in the engineering entrance examination will be able to access their result in online mode. The scores of the applicants will be published in the result of JEE Main 2017. The status of those applicants who have qualified for the second stage examination i.e, JEE Advanced 2017 for IIT admissions, will also be released. JEE Main Rank List 2017
The rank list of JEE Main 2017 will be released by the Joint Admission Board (JAB). The All India Ranks of the applicants will be announced through the rank list. The normalized scores of 12thstandard examination will not be counted any more for the decision of the ranking. A new methodology will be used which will soon be announced by the authorities. JEE Main Cutoff 2017
The cutoff of JEE Main 2017 will be announced by CBSE which will consist of the closing ranks or minimum scores that all applicants will have to obtain to be eligible for JEE Advanced 2017. If the applicant is not able to meet the cutoff then he/she will not be move forward to the next stage of the admission procedure into the IITs.

JEE Main Participating Institutes 2017
JEE Main 2017 acts as a gateway for applicants into the various prestigious engineering institutes of India. The participating institutes of JEE Main 2017 includes 31 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), 20 Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and 19 Government Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs). JEE Main Counselling 2017
The counselling session of JEE Main 2017 is conducted by Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). Only those applicants who have qualified in JEE Main 2017 will be able to participate in the counselling session. The applicants will have to register themselves and select their preferred college and course. Online allocation of seats will be done based on the applicant’s ranking, category, availability of seats and other factors. After the seat allocation is done, the applicants will have to report at their allotted institute for document verification and fee payment. JoSAA conducts 6 rounds of counselling and the applicants will be allotted into NITs, IIITs and GFTIs.

Ans: Yes, the applicants can attempt both the examination papers or are free to select one.
Q2. What action is to be taken, if the applicants has opted Hindi/Gujarati medium for examination and wants to appear in English medium?
Ans: The applicants who have selected Hindi/Gujarati medium will get the question paper which will be bilingual (both in Hindi/English and Gujarati/English). The applicant can attempt any medium during examination.
Q3. Whether the candidates appeared in Paper – 2 are eligible for admission to B.Arch. course in IITs?
Ans: No, the applicants will not be eligible for B.Arch course in IITs. There will be a separate examination procedure for that.
