The Bachelor Programmes include Bachelor of Design and Bachelor of Fashion Technology. The Master’s Programmes are Master of Design, Master of Fashion Technology and Master of Fashion Management.
Eligibility: For Bachelor Programmes, applicant should not be over 23 years of age, as on 1st October, 2015. The upper age limit is relaxed by a period of 5 (five) years for SC/ST/ Differently Abled Person (PHP).
For admission to Bachelor of Design (B.Des) (Fashion Design / Leather Design / Accessory Design / Textile Design / Knitwear Design / Fashion Communication), applicant should have passed the +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination or General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB) or any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system or should have a pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects or 3 or 4-years diploma recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
For the Bachelor of Fashion Technology (Apparel Production) (B.FTech), applicant should have passed the +2 level examination in the 10+2 pattern of examination of any recognized Central/State Board of Secondary Examination, with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or the General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/Cambridge/Sri- Lanka) at the advanced (A) level with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / International Baccalaureate (IB) or any Public School/Board/University Examination in India or in foreign countries recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or should have a pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or 3 or 4-years diploma in any branch of Engineering recognized by AICTE or a State Board of Technical Education.
For admission to the Master’s Programmes, there is no age limit.
For M.Des (Master of Design), applicant should hold an Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India or Diploma in UG Design from NIFT/NID only (Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID).
For M.F.M (Master of Fashion Management), applicant should hold Undergraduate Degree from any Institute / University recognized by law in India or Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT / NID.
For M.F.Tech (Master of Fashion Technology), applicant should have B.F.Tech from NIFT or B.E / B.Tech from any Institute / University recognized by law in India.
Those appearing in the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply subject to production of proof of having acquired the minimum prescribed qualifications at the time of counselling/ admission. If the 12th class/final year/final semester (as the case may be) result of qualifying degree/certificate examination is not declared by the concerned Board/ University till the date of counselling/ admission, his/her admission in such case will be strictly provisional subject to the submission of an Affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper of Rs.10/- in the prescribed Proforma (Annexure–I of Prospectus) and the submission of the final result of qualifying degree/certificate providing his/her eligibility on or before 30th September, 2016 to their Campus Director / Jt. Director where the admission is taken. Details are available in the Prospectus.
Reservation: Seats are reserved for SC / ST / Differently Abled Candidates (PHP) / Foreign Nationals / SAARC / NRI, in each programme are as under: SC- 15% ST- 7.5% OBC (Non-Creamy)- 27%. There is 3% horizontal reservation for Differently Abled Person (PHP). Foreign Nationals/ SAARC/NRI have 15% (supernumerary) reservation.
State Domicile candidates will have 20% (supernumerary) reservation (6 supernumerary seats in addition to 30 seats) in NIFT campuses at Patna (Bihar), Kangra (Himachal Pradesh), Kannur (Kerala), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Shillong (Meghalaya), Bhubaneswar (Odisha) and Jodhpur (Rajasthan). The state in which the candidate has completed his/her class 12th examination/ graduation/qualifying degree is the domicile of the student. A certificate from the school /college may be obtained. In case the candidate obtained the qualifying certificate/degree through Distance Learning mode, the address of the school attended by the candidate regularly will determine his/her domicile status. Candidates who are domicile of the states where the NIFT Campuses exist will be allowed to opt for this preference while filling online application form. However, they will have a choice to take admission under General / ST/ SC / OBC category (as applicable) as per merit to any course/ campus of their choice. The domicile of the candidate in a particular state shall not be applicable in any other Campuses of NIFT in any other State. Reservation of SCs / STs/ OBCs (non-creamy layer)/ Physically Handicapped candidates, shall be applicable for the domicile seats also.
Application: Applications can be submitted online at www.nift.ac.in or at https://applyadmission.net/nift2016, latest by 10th January, 2016. Guidelines for applying online are available at the links. The Prospectus can be downloaded from www.nift.ac.in.
Application Fee: Fee for General/OBC (Non-Creamy) Category is Rs.1500/- and fee for SC/ ST/ PHP Category is Rs.750/-. The fee can be paid through payment gateway using Credit Cards/Debit Cards. It can also be paid by way of a Demand Draft issued in favour of ‘NIFT HO’ payable at New Delhi. In such cases, the details of the Demand Draft are to be filled in the online application form. Those applying through Demand Draft are required to send the printout of the Application Form, duly completed in all respect, along with Demand Draft to ‘Project Manager-CMS, All India Management Association, Management House, 14, Institutional Area, Lodhi Road, New Delhi-110003, to reach latest by 16th January, 2016. Candidates may keep the copy of printout and Demand Draft for future reference.

New Candidate has to visit https://applyadmission.net/nift2016 and click ‘Fresh Candidate to create Log In (New Log In)’ and fill the details to register for any programme. Applicant should have valid email ID for applying online. Applicant should fill up the details and press the button ‘Submit’. The confirmation for the registration will also be sent to the email entered. The Email-ID and Date of birth as filled by the applicant has to be used to login to the website to fill the online application form.
Application has to be submitted in four steps. Application has to be filled up first. Subsequently, the applicant should upload image (Photograph and Signature). In the third step, Payment is to be made and in the final stage, the application has to be printed. Detailed procedure is given at the website.
After the normal last date, applications can be submitted online with late fee of Rs.5000/- in addition to the applicable application fee till 16th January, 2016. However, remittance of Fee in such cases will be permitted only through Credit/Debit Card only.
Entrance Examination: All eligible candidates will have to appear for a written entrance examination. The Paper Based Test (PBT) for all UG and PG Programmes will be conducted on 14th February 2016 at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cochin, Coimbatore, Dehradun, Delhi, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur (Kerala), Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Patna, Pune, Raipur, Ranchi, Surat, Udaipur, Vadodara, Vishakhapatnam, Shillong and Srinagar (J&K). The written entrance examination is designed to test the knowledge, skill and aptitude of the candidates for the programme opted. There is no negative marking. Depending on the Programme, the applicants will have to take the General Ability Test (GAT) only or GAT and Creative Ability Test (CAT).
Bachelor of Design and Master of Design will have CAT (10 am to 1 pm) and GAT (2 pm to 4 pm). Bachelor of Fashion Technology, Master of Fashion Technology and Master of Fashion Management will have only GAT (from 10 am to 1 pm).
General Ability Test (GAT) for Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) will comprise of questions from Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability and General Knowledge & Current Affairs. General Ability Test (GAT) for B.F.Tech; M.F.M and M.F.Tech will comprise of questions from Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability & English Comprehension, Analytical & Logical Ability, General Knowledge & Current Affairs and Case Study.
Admit Card: On the basis of information given in the NIFT Application Forms, Admit Cards of provisionally eligible candidates will be available for download from www.nift.ac.in or https://applyadmission.net/NIFT2016 from 1 pm on 21st January 2016. Admit cards will not be sent by post.
Result: The result of the entrance examination will be displayed on the NIFT website. On the basis of result of written test GAT and CAT, shortlisted B.Des candidates will be called for second test called Situation Test. For B.F.Tech candidates, GAT will be the final test for selection. On the basis of the result of GAT and CAT, in the case of M.Des and GAT in the case of M.F Tech and MFM, candidates will be called for Group Discussion/Personal Interview (GD/PI). Situation Test / Group Discussion / Interview will be held during April – May 2016
Shortlisted candidates for B.Des from the written entrance examination are required to take a Situation Test which is a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials. Shortlisted candidates for Masters Programs from the written entrance examination are required to undergo Case Study based Group Discussions (GD) and Personal Interview (PI).
Final Result will be declared at the website by end of May / June 2016. The weightage assigned to each test in the final merit list of the entrance examination will be as follows. Bachelor of Design: CAT -50%, GAT- 30%; Situation Test- 20%; Master of Design: CAT- 40%, GAT-30% and GD/PI-30%; Bachelor of Fashion Technology: GAT- 100%; Master of Fashion Technology: GAT- 70%, GD/PI-30%; Master of Fashion Management: GAT-70%, GD/PI- 30%. The details of counselling such as the mode, dates and procedure will be available on the website in the month of April/May 2016.
Foreign Nationals/SAARC/ NRI category: Those seeking admission under this category have to apply online at website www.nift.ac.in or https://applyadmission.net/NIFTNRI2016. The last date for applying under this category is 30th April 2016. Details are given in the website and Prospectus.
