April 03,2013: Indian
Institute of Space Science Technology, an autonomous body under the
Department of Space and set up with the primary objective of generating
high quality human resources to meet the requirements of Department of
Space (DOS) /Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and located at
Valiamalai, Thiruvananthapuram, has announced the admission to the B
Tech Programmes offered at the Institute.
The three B.Tech Programmes offered at
the Institute are in Aerospace Engineering (60 seats), Avionics (60
seats) and Physical Sciences (36 seats). Applicant should be Indian
citizens. Applicant belonging to GEN and OBC (NCL) categories should
have been born on or after October 1, 1988 while those belonging to SC,
ST and PD categories should have been born on or after October 1, 1983.

category-wise marks in JEE(Advanced)-2013 to be eligible for admission
to the IIST.
The minimum prescribed marks in JEE
Advanced for General Candidatesis 5% marks in each of the three
subjects, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and 20% marks in aggregate.
OBC (NCL) Candidates should score at least 90% of the marks prescribed
for General Candidates while SC, ST & PD Candidates have to score at
least 50% ofthe marks prescribed for General Candidates for
JEE(Advanced)-2013.

B.Tech. Programme in Aerospace
Engineering,is a programme oriented towards the needs of space
technology and has significant overlap with Mechanical Engineering
including Mechanical Design, Manufacturing Sciences and Space Dynamics.
Those with B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering can further specialize in
Flight Mechanics, Aerodynamics, Thermal and Propulsion, Structure and
Design, and Manufacturing Science.
B.Tech. (Avionics) Degree programme
comprises of subjects of study in Electronics and Communications
Engineering programmes, in addition to study of Advanced Electronics in
Digital Communication, Control Systems and Computer Systems used in
Aerospace Systems. Those with B.Tech Degree in Avionics can later
specialize in areas like DSP, RF & Communication, Antenna, Power
Electronics, Micro Electronics, Control Systems etc.
B.Tech (Physical Sciences) is a 4-year
Programme oriented towards application of basic sciences in Space
Science and Technology. The programme lays a strong foundation in
Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics, and gives exposure to important
applications of space technology such as Remote Sensing and GIS,
Astronomy and Astrophysics and Earth System Sciences. People with B.Tech
Degree in Physical Sciences can later specialize in areas like
Atmospheric and Ocean Sciences, Solid Earth Science, Astronomy and
Astrophysics, Remote Sensing & GIS, and Chemical Systems.
More details of the Programmes can be
had fromhttp://www.iist.ac.in/admission/under-graduate. Those selected
to the Programmes will be eligible for Assistantship. The full
assistantship per semester for tuition fees, hostel accommodation and
boarding etc will be borne by the IIST for each student subject to
